#MealsTogether with Tyson Chicken Nuggets and Del Monte Green Beans partnered with EPIC The Movie!

© 2013 Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation. All rights reserved.
If you have kids of any age, you are probably aware there's a big family movie opening today! Yes, you guessed it, EPIC The Movie is opening in theaters nationwide today!

We are a big family, with kids of all ages, so we enjoy attending movies that we can all enjoy. We appreciate movies that appeal to our youngest two with the colors and animation, as well as our teens with humor and cool characters, and my husband and I love family movies that contain all of those things and are well written to where we enjoy the story and the message as well.

Well, EPIC The Movie is a 3D CG film, and comes from the same people that brought us ICE AGE and RIO. Both films are in heavy rotation in our home, mainly for the little ones. But they're such great movies that we enjoy them too, the songs and the characters, and there's always those little things you catch that you may not have noticed the last few times you watched it. With a family like ours, everything we watch is family oriented so you can imagine our excitement to see EPIC The Movie!

Check out this trailer, and maybe you'll join in our excitement!

I can already tell by the previews that the characters are well developed. The majority of the story takes place in a fantasy world, and there is a hero group (Mub, Grub, NK and Nod) that is trying to save their world from the bad guys who want to destroy it. It's that great story of good versus evil, and the whole family will be on the edge of their seats! I can't wait!

We have plans to see this movie tonight, and with a family our size that can be a hectic thing to prepare for. Last weekend we went on a shopping trip to Sam's Club to pick up a few things in preparation for this evenings plans. While we were at Sam's Club, they had quite a few store demo's since it was the lunch hour on a weekend. The kids had fun trying the various samples, but while we were walking through the frozen food aisle in search of something quick and healthy that would be filling for everyone while we are at the movies, the kids stopped me at the Tyson Chicken Nuggets display. Now you all know I love Tyson Chicken and all of their products. This particular display had Tyson Chicken Nuggets paired with Del Monte Green Beans. The pairing provides a full meal solution that includes protein and veggies. The kids shouted "Chicken Nuggets!", so of course we had to get a sample!

They gobbled their nuggets down, and even tried the green beans. To my delight, they loved it all, so I chatted with Wendy about the display and she explained what she added to the green beans.

She cooked some bacon, strained the green beans and added them in and just seasoned them with a little lemon pepper. They were great, and I was reminded of my Mom this past Mother's Day when we were cooking dinner. She kept asking for some green beans, which we did make, but I know she would have loved them this way. I decided this would be the meal we made for our movie night. I love that it's rich in protein and 100% natural, but still kid (and teen) friendly.

I picked up what I needed from Sam's Club and we were on our way!
For more photos of my shopping experience at Sam's Club, check out my Google Plus album!

I decided to buy the Tyson Chicken Nuggets, and I love that at Sam's Club it's a huge five pound bag. That size bag stands a chance of lasting more than a few days with my large family. I decided to pair the nuggets with a homemade barbecue sauce that I would make ahead of time in order to save time the night of the movie. I also piggy-backed off Wendy's idea at Sam's Club and used back with the green beans seasoned with lemon pepper, but I also decided to add some minced garlic, a few squeezes of lemon juice, and add some diced pimento's for some color. I served it with a simple smoothie and it was a success. I can't wait to make this meal again to enjoy before we're off for our family movie night!

Barbecue Sauce Ingredients:

  • 1-1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2-1/2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2-1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 3/4 teaspoons onion salt
  • 3/4 teaspoons dried ground mustard
  • 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
Garlicky Green Beans and Bacon
  • 4 slices thick cut bacon
  • 2 cans Del Monte cut green beans
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon pepper
  • 2 ounce jar diced pimentos, drained
Combine all of the ingredients for the barbecue sauce in a medium saucepan.
Whisk until well mixed and cook over medium-low heat, stirring every few minutes.
It will take about an hour to thicken, then cover and refrigerate until ready to use.

Prepare the Tyson Chicken Nuggets according to packing directions.

Cut the uncooked bacon in small pieces. I sliced, then cut the slices in half.

Cook the bacon in a large skillet until brown but not crispy. Remove most of the grease, then add the garlic.
Combine well.

Add the drained green beans, then the lemon juice and lemon pepper.
Combine well, then add the drained pimentos. Heat until just warmed through.

The green beans were delicious! I wish my mom had been there, she would have loved them!

The nuggets paired perfectly with my barbecue sauce.

RiRi is loving her meal!

So is D-Man.

Family Meals Together. That's what it's all about, right?

Lemon-Blueberry Pie with Ginger-Lemon Shortbread Crust, thanks to Walkers Shortbread!

Disclosure: I am a Blog Ambassador for Walkers Shortbread. I was provided free product to try and was not compensated for this post. All thoughts are my own.

About a month ago I was contacted by a Walkers Shortbread representative to be one of a few select bloggers chosen to represent their product by being a Blog Ambassador. My first reaction? Flattered!

Of course I'm familiar with Walkers Shortbread products, I've seen them in the cookie aisle at most stores as long as I can remember. Who could miss the Scottish tartan plaid on the packaging?

I decided to do some more digging on the company I'd possibly represent, and became even more impressed with them and especially flattered that they chose me as one of the bloggers to represent their brand!

Company Information
  • The family-owned company still bakes its shortbread, traditional cookies, cakes, oatcakes and puddings in the secluded village of Aberlour in the Highlands of Scotland. The company was founded in 1898 by Joseph Walker, and continues to be actively run by the Walkers family.
  • Walkers Shortbread is the leading brand of food exported from Scotland.
Ingredients
  • Walkers’ classic shortbread is made from only four pure and simple ingredients: butter, flour, sugar and a pinch of salt. Walkers Shortbread uses the very best ingredients that it can procure for its recipes.
  • Our Shortbread is baked with no genetically modified ingredients, artificial colors, flavors, preservatives or hydrogenated fats.
  • No bovine growth hormones or antibiotics are given to the free range grass fed dairy cows that produce the rich, creamy milk that becomes the butter used in our shortbread recipe.
  • 100% vegetarian; no animal fats are used in Walkers Shortbread recipes.
  • Walkers shortbread, cookies and oatcakes are certified Kosher OUD by the Orthodox Union.
  • Walkers Shortbread products are sold in supermarkets and gourmet, specialty, drug, club and on-line retailers nationwide and via the company’s website (www.walkersus.com).

In addition to all of that (as if it's not enough!) they have also had a successful partnership with the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®). This is especially impressive for me, because I am a dog owner and dog lover. We own dogs that are misunderstood and do get mistreated, so I feel this partnership is a dream! I've talked many times about how I prefer to make things from scratch, less preservatives and additives and to find a company that's been around as long as they have, and still uses pure ingredients and keeps it handmade is my kind of people!

As a Blog Ambassador, I will receive shipments of product with a theme. I can create recipes using these products and share them with you. I will also have contests, giveaways, and coupon codes that I get to share as well! Doesn't that sound fun!? Stay tuned, at the end of the post I have a limited time coupon code to share! Take a look at the special Pinterest board Walkers has set up for the various recipes their Blog Ambassadors share!

Once I received my first shipment, I was impressed by the variety of flavors. This is their Spring shipment, "Sweet Celebrations for Mother's Day and Spring". I get to taste these delicious cookies and think up some recipes that would be great for Mother's Day and Spring! The flavors are:
  • Shortbread Fingers
  • Shortbread Highlanders
  • Raspberry Thins
  • Chocolate Chip Shortbread
  • Vanilla Shortbread
  • Lemon Thins
  • Stem Ginger Shortbread
They all sounded so amazing, I didn't know where to start. After a lot of self-restraint (and hiding these gems from the kids!) I decided to make a light dessert that tastes decidedly Springtime-ish (is that a word?).
I decided to pair the Lemon Thins with the Stem Ginger Shortbread cookies to make a pie crust. The filling would consist of lemon and blueberries. How much more Spring can you get than that?

Since the cookies are simple with few ingredients, I decided this recipe should be no different. It's easy to put together, requires very little baking, and it's light and sweet with all the flavors complimenting one another. The pie should be chilled 24 hours before it's cut into, this gives the flavors a chance to combine and balance each other out. The texture is similar to a cheesecake, right down to the crust. I like that the little chunks of ginger add something special to this dessert.

Ginger-Lemon Shortbread Pie Crust Ingredients:
  • 1 box (12 cookies) Walkers Shortbread Lemon Thins
  • 1 box (12 cookies) Walkers Stem Ginger Shortbread Cookies
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
Lemon-Blueberry Pie Filling Ingredients:
  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 1 (14 ounce can) condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon lemon zest
  • 1-1/2 cups fresh blueberries (about 9 ounces)
Lemon Infused Whipped Cream Ingredients:
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • zest from 1 lemon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions:
Start by preheating the oven to 400 degrees.
Place both boxes of cookies in a bowl (or food processor, blender, whatever way you decide to crumble them). I used a bowl and just crumbled by hand, since they are shortbread and soft, they were easy to get to a fine crumb.
Once it's crumbly, take 2 tablespoons of the shortbread crumbles and reserve, this will be used to sprinkle over the finished product.
Once crumbled mix the two flavors of cookies together well. Add the sugar, then the melted butter.
Now mix the butter well into the sugar and cookie crumbs, being sure that all crumbs are the same texture.
Press the shortbread crumbs into a pie plate, making sure it's even all around.
Bake in the preheated oven for 5-8 minutes, just until golden.
Set aside to cool while you prepare the filling.
Now reset the oven to 350 degrees.
In a medium bowl, add the can of condensed milk and then the egg yolks.
Whisk thoroughly (D-Man decided to help me).
Now add the lemon juice and lemon zest, and continue to whisk together until well combined.
Now, add the fresh (and rinsed) blueberries, folding them gently into the mixture.
Pour the mixture into the crust and spread so it's even.
Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. The filling will be firm, similar to a cheesecake.
Let cool to room temperature, then refrigerate. This serves well the next day, so give 12-24 hours to chill.
Shortly before it's ready to serve, prepare the whipped cream. Combine the heavy whipping cream, powdered sugar, vanilla extract and lemon zest. Beat on high until stiff peaks form.
Serve with a dallop (or two) of the lemon infused whipped cream, a sprinkle of the shortbread crumbs and use a lemon wedge and a few blueberries as garnish.
The Ginger-Lemon Shortbread Crust was divine, and a perfect compliment to the Lemon-Blueberry Filling.
Enjoy!
I have a limited time exclusive promo code #KMHSPRING which, for a limited time only, will give you 20% off your purchase made at www.walkersus.com, excluding sale items. This promotion will remain active until May 24, 2013.

Come get to know the newest Flagship Walgreens store in San Francisco! #SFWAG

I was invited to the opening of the Walgreens store opening by Collective Bias®.  I was compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias ™ and Walgreens #CBias #SocialFabric  All Opinions are my own.

There is one store that I always go to if I just need to pick something up really quick, if I ran out of diapers at 9 pm, and where I've picked up medication and prescriptions for years. That store is always my neighborhood Walgreens.

For so long I've always gone to Walgreens for household illnesses, a gallon of milk, or even a little toy for the kids. Shampoo, nail polish, and a variety of clearance products, there's always something I need to pick up that I can find there. It's always been that one-stop-shop and somehow it's always managed to be the closest little store by my house, no matter how many times I've moved. It's that store that's dependable, and I love it even more now that they've developed a rewards card.

Last week, my love for Walgreens was intensified ten-fold!!! I was invited to attend the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony of the brand new Walgreens in San Francisco. This wasn't the opening of just any old store. This was the opening of a Flagship store in the heart of Downtown San Francisco. Located at 134 Powell Street on the corner of Powell and O'Farrell.
In San Francisco, all the buildings are big and grand. It's part of that wonderful San Francisco experience. If you were to just walk past this particular Walgreens, you wouldn't even notice that it's about 18,000 square feet inside, or that it's a 2-story Walgreens. I love that! When you walk in the door, it literally takes your breath away. This store takes one-stop-shopping to an entirely new level!

The Walgreens "flagship" style stores are designed to compliment the communities where they exist by supporting the Walgreens vision of becoming "My Walgreens" for everyone in America, the first choice for health and daily living.

This is just a glimpse of what the first level has in store. I walked in the front door and didn't know where to start!
The Main level has hundreds of fresh food items including produce and high-quality, on-the-go meal options such as wraps, sandwiches and salads made fresh daily.

Fresh salads and sandwiches, at Walgreens? Seriously?! I've always stopped at Walgreens before our kids football games to stock up on snacks, candy and drinks, but I've never seen one that has such a huge choice of fresh and healthy choices!

Here there's a large choice of sushi, cakes, burritos and other meals. I've never seen anything like it, and yes I purchased that Red Velvet cake, and it was DIVINE!

Here we have more salad, yogurt and fresh fruit, vegetables with dips, hummus and other meal options. What more could you want?

Even more salads! These look pretty delicious, I'd say!

The store's expanded features also include several flavors of self-serve frozen yogurt accompanied by an enticing toppings bar. I love the screen above that shows all of the various flavors and combination choices.

There's an Upmarket Cafe, offering a barista preparing fresh brewed premium coffee and espressos. A juice and smoothie bar featuring fresh fruits and vegetables included in distinct recipes that are named after various San Francisco landmarks and areas. I also love that the Upmarket logo is on a look-alike bridge, which is one of the most famous landmarks of San Francisco.

Fresh juice, chilled and ready to go!

Local, freshly baked goods are also available.

More baked goods and desserts brought in daily by local bakers.

There's a robust selection of beer, wine and spirits and quality products appropriate to celebrate special occasions. Once again, more distinctive signs showcasing what makes the San Francisco Bay Area unique!

There's even a replica display of Ghirardelli Square that will pay homage to Ghirardelli's local history and will offer one of the largest selections of Ghirardelli premium chocolates and gift selections in the San Francisco area. It's beautiful, and they were on sale with your Rewards card!

Towards the back of the downstairs area, you can find the California Fresh Market. This has fresh produce and dairy products, many from local farmers.

Also towards the back of the downstairs area is a large variety of souvenirs that can be found through local vendors on the streets of San Francisco. I love all the aprons, oven mitts and of course the mugs!

It was time to go upstairs, and see what more this store had to offer (as if I hadn't already seen more than enough!) The pharmacy is located upstairs, as well as the health and beauty products. This store isn't your average drugstore with a few aisles of makeup and hair care. Oh no! This is home to the LOOK Boutique. Think of a high end department store, and the feel of their cosmetics department. That is what you get when you arrive in the LOOK Boutique.

Now I know I'm a foodie and this is mainly a food and recipe blog, but before I knew how to cook I always knew makeup, hair and eyebrows. I'm a glamour girl at heart, and I was LOVING the upstairs area.

This is Marcia, and she made us feel special by giving us all a personal and private tour before the doors were officially open. She showed us all around the Beauty and LOOK Boutique.
As you can see in the background, this is no ordinary beauty department at Walgreens. It has the look and feel of high end beauty products. Beautiful hardwood floors and natural lighting overhead. It's the epitome of everything you want when you go shopping for beauty items. Impressed is an understatement.

One of the first things that caught my eye was the Demeter Fragrance Library. This has many fun scents and you are more than welcome to try any and all scents. These are fun, because you can combine a few together to create your own custom scent! There's so many to choose from!

Here's a few of my favorites. Of course, they smell like food. So even when I'm not in the kitchen, I can smell like I was cooking something delicious! Fun, right?

This is another fun item, it's a lip gloss by Gosh Cosmetics. There's a mirror on the cap and the gloss stick lights up! So if you're in a dimly lit restaurant, you can still apply your gloss without the guesswork. Love it, and the colors of the entire line are gorgeous!

I was invited to attend this event with a few other local bloggers, and I loved our group! I "borrowed" this photo from Isis at Bay Area Mommy, and hope she doesn't mind!! From left to right is Isis, Shannon from The Mommy Files, our tour guide Marcia, Brandi from Mama Knows It All, and little ol' me!

Right next to the huge windows with perfect natural light shining through is the Ramy Eyebrow Bar. Here, you can find expert brow shaping and grooming services.

Ramy is a well known eyebrow guru, and he trains each of associates himself. He had some great tips and was very friendly. Isis from Bay Area Mommy got her eyebrows done and we were amazed at what a transformation it was. Her brows were gorgeous to start with, but he gave it a little oomph! That's me pictures above with him. I was too chicken to get my brows done, but looking back I wish I had!

There's Shannon from The Mommy Files getting her shopping on! We had a blast!

I loved the Social Command Center, it was displaying all the tweets and photos from twitter that came up with the hashtag #SFWAG, go check out everyone's tweets about this event!

Once our tour was over, it was time for the ceremonies for the day and then the grand opening! These guys spoke of the long history of Walgreens and why San Francisco was chosen for the next flagship store. This store is the first flagship store located in Northern California and employs about 90 employees, creating 50 new jobs! The San Francisco Mayor, Edwin Lee, came and proclaimed it was "Official Walgreens Day" in San Francisco!

Once the speeches were done, the ribbon cutting ceremony began and the store was now open for business! It was only right since we were in the heart of San Francisco that dragons came through the building to bring good luck! I love that the culture of San Francisco was evident in so many ways in this store. It is definitely unique and one of a kind because of it.

"50 Reasons to Love San Francisco" and Walgreens is now one of them. I'd have to agree!

Walgreen's core purpose is to help people get, stay and live well. Everywhere I went in the store, there was a friendly face that would offer assistance, and smile and say "Be Well". I love that! Nothing beats a friendly smile and extraordinary customer service. That, combined with everything in this store equates to a lovely shopping experience.

This store is unlike any drugstore you've seen before, and it provides a differentiated experience from what you would normally expect. For even more photos of my experience at this Walgreens, check out my Google Plus photo album!
