"Mama Harris" is a 30-something stay at home mother/stepmother of 5 children.
After spending many years as a single working mom, she met the man that swept her off her feet and would soon become her husband. They married in 2008 and had their first child together a year later. Their second child came two years later and their blended, multicultural family is now complete.
Shortly after their wedding day, she was laid off of work due to rough economic times. She found herself forced into the role as a Stay at Home mother when they discovered shortly after that they were expecting their first child together. At high risk for preterm labor, she was unable to secure a new job after being placed on months of bedrest. Going from a two income family to one was an adjustment and food budgets among other things had to be restricted.
Discovering new ways to get creative in the kitchen with a growing family and a shrinking budget is how she developed a passion for cooking and baking. Sharing her personal photos and recipes with her personal and online friends, she was encouraged to create a blog to showcase her recipes, food photos, and personal cooking style. She decided to create this blog, and named it "From the Kitchen of Mama Harris". The name "Mama Harris" was coined by a dear friend based on her cooking style and recipes. It is also a reference to her husbands late grandmother, "Big Mama." Big Mama was the family matriarch, and was a wonderful inspiration to Mama Harris. In their few short years together Mama Harris learned priceless lessons about how to be an exceptional mother and wife. Big Mama is sorely missed, but her memories continue live on through her many children, grandchildren and beyond.
Mama Harris is also a contributing writer at textdrivebys.com, an online publication by a collective of women located all over the U.S.
